Two owl women share a magical secret. I lore worldwide, women who dare to learn the mystical mysteries become able to shapeshift into owls. Sacred to Athena and other wisdom goddesses, owls fly silently and cry out who? These owl women are inspired by the dark feminine figures of Stikini, Lilith, and Strix. In my imagery, I challenge the usual associations for these "bad" magical fairy women and explore their knowledge, wisdom, power and daring to empower, strengthen and heal. I found major influence from art history in the late 19th century Symbolist painters as well as the ancient Greek art they were referencing for this series.
